3 Steps to Designing Successful Trade Show Product Displays

It is hard to draw attention at a trade show. Why? Simple – that’s what everyone is trying to do. Despite the fact that you are presenting your display to a highly-targeted audience, you are still fighting for attention with everyone else at the how. Unless you have a creative, innovative way to display your goods, you run the risk of being forgotten at the end of the day.

Since you have a lot riding on your performance at a trade show, you need to do everything possible to stand out from the competition. While difficult, this is not an impossible task. Let’s take a quick look at three steps you can take to design a trade show product display that will be truly successful.

Understand Your Own Product

It is tempting when designing a display for a trade show to think only about your audience. You do want to think about the audience, of course, but you should also think about your own product. What are its main characteristics? Is it large in size, or will it be easy to display in a small space? Are you going to need anything specific in your display location to support your product, such as a power supply? Think about these factors right at the start of the process so you don’t run into issues later on.

A Custom Design

You will want to design your display around the needs of your product, first and foremost. The design should be able to highlight the best features of your product and do it in a way that is welcoming to attendees of the show. Things like quality graphics and effective lighting are requirements, as you need to project a professional appearance all the way around. In addition to concerns regarding the product itself, you should also think about those who will be working in the space during the show. If there will be formal presentations or even just casual conversations, make sure there is room in the booth for those things to occur.

Finish the Job

The work of capturing attention at a trade show doesn’t end with a solid design. Once that great design is in place, you will still have to finish the job by bringing together a comprehensive plan for the show. For example, you may want to add a giveaway or contest to add some excitement to your booth. Or, you might need to perform some staff training to make sure they are ready to sell successfully. In the end, it is the small details that will make the difference as you try to outshine the competitors in your market.

Trade shows are a great opportunity, but they can go wrong just as easy as they can go right. If you fail to prepare properly, you will wind up casting a negative light on your products and on your company as a whole. That is obviously the last thing you want to do. Plan well in advance for your trade show appearances to make sure they go off without a hitch.
